He enlisted 5/16/1862 in Buncombe Co., NC. Civil War Draft Registration dated 7/1/1863 Maries County, MO.

After the War was over, Leander was known to have told others that he was NEVER "Reconstructed."

According to the article posted on his Find A Grave Memorial, Leander's parents were George Martin and Louisa Scott Martin. Born 1827 in AL Died 1916 Fulton Co., AR.

Jesse Leander Martin married Phebey Isabelle Hawkins on 5/1/1847 at Osage County, MO. One of his pet name for her was "Iby". Leander was 19 at his wedding. His wife was a full-blooded Native American woman.
