About Johanna Laurens Debow
Frederick’s widow (Johanna) probably died shortly before Aug. 15, 1771, when the plantation in which she had a life estate under the will was advertised for sale by Matthias Mount as executor. The advertisement described the plantation as “a valuable plantation, whereon John DeBow now dwells, late the property of Frederick Debow, deceased, lying in Lower Freehold, about 5 miles from Monmouth Court House and 2 miles from John Creagh’s (Creag’s) mills, containing 300 acres more of less”. The purchaser was Matthias Rue to whom a deed dated October 5, 1771, was given by Matthias Mount as “only Surviving Executor of the last will and Testament of Frederick Debogh late of Freehold in the County of Monmouth deceased.” It also recited that Frederick acquired the property from Henry VanHook and Deborah VanHook by deeds dated January 25, 1724/5 and May 19, 1733.
