Johannes Adamus Hamacher was born ca. 1717 in Werkhausen, Rhine Valley, present day Germany, christened Aug 14, 1718 in Werkhausen, and died on Nov 7, 1783 in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsyslvania about the age of 66.

    He married Eva Maria Licht, who was born ca. 1720 and died before 1762.  They were married Apr 28, 1739 in Oberhattert, present day Germany.  She was the daughter of Johann Christ Licht, who was born ca. 1692 in Wiedt, Rhine Valley, present day Germany.  

His second wife was Ann Riley , whom he married before May 26, 1762 in Derry township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She was born ca. 1735 and died in 1790 in Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
On Sep 30, 1740, Johann Adam Hamacher, age 23, arrived in Philadelphia on the ship Samuel and Elizabeth from Rotterdam with a total of 56 men and 28 women age 17 and older. Children were not listed. Commander William Chilton was the ship's captain. With Adam was Hubberich Hamacher, likely his brother, age 27. They were called Palatines, or Germans.
Adam was granted land in 1749 and later, according to the Pennsylvania Archives, Series 3, Vol 24, pp 434-6, 438, 699.
On May 26, 1762, Adam Hamacher and Anna sold land to John McClure in Derry Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. (Dauphin County Deeds L-14, pp 49-51)
One member of the Daughters of the American Revolution who claimed Adam Haymaker as her patriot ancestor for membership was Jann Gail Nolte Merry, number 742039. She descended from Adam's son Adam, Jr. Ms. Merry stated that Adam was a Private in the Fourth Battalion, and was in the Battle of Fort Washington on Nov 26, 1776. She also cited the DAR applications of her mother, Virginia Lee Marquette Nolte, member number 719348, and her great aunt Margaret Elizabeth Marquette Ponti, member number 339541. She documented Adam's participation in the Revolution by citing the Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Volume VII, page 352. That page states:
"Associators and Militia. County of Lancaster. An appraisement of arms, blankets & accoutrements lost in actual service belonging to the Fourth Battalion of Lancaster County Militia, commanded by Col. James Burd. Belonging to Captain Cowden's Company." There were 27 names in the first column, including Adam Hamaker. There were four other columns, headed by "Guns," "Pouches and horns," "Blankets," and "Napsacks." Under "Guns," Adam claimed the amount of £3, 7s. and 6d.
Adam Haymaker, born 1717, died 1784, is listed in the Revolutionary War Graves Register compiled by Clovis H. Brakebill, and reproduced on the Sons of the American Revolution compact disk Revolutionary War Graves Register. It lists his burial location as the Christ Reformed Church Cemetery in Cavetown, Washington County, Maryland. The cemetery locator at the Christ Reformed Church in Maryland states, "Hammaker, Adam b 1717 from Holland, d. 1784. In Flying Camp PA 1776." However, a descendant reports that his name was inscribed on only a memorial stone as the father of many who were members there. His actual burial place was likely on his homestead, site of the current Hershey's West plant in Pennsylvania, where a Hamacher family cemetery was recently discovered and restored, yielding his tombstone.
Based on the Record Copy of Ms. Merry's DAR application, Larry Patrick Cornwell, Sons of the American Revolution member number 138085, was approved for a supplemental membership, claiming Adam as one of his patriot ancestors.
Adam Hamacher wrote his will on Aug 29, 1783. It is on file in Will Book X, Volume 2, page 288. It was probated January 16, 1784 at Lancaster County Courthouse, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. It is on file in the Dauphin County, Pennsylvania Court House. It reads:
"In the name of God Amen the 29th August 1783. I Adam Hamacher of Derry Township Lancaster County being sick in Body but of sound understanding And as it is appointed for all Men once to die, I recommend my soul into the Hands of my faithful Creator, and my body to the Earth to be buried in a Christian-like manner and touching such temporal Estate where with God had blessed me, I order in the following manner.
"First it is my last Will and Testament, that my wife Ann Anna shall have two hundred Pounds in good money, when the Place is sold then she shall have the aforesaid Sum in yearly Payments of Twenty-five Pounds until it is paid. And she shall have the Bed, and as much Household Furniture as she has occasion for, and her Saddle, and a Horse Creature and a Cow, to be kept fed and pastured for her like their own Creatures and she shall have a Right to live in the house, but if she cannot live with them, they shall provide another Place of Habitation for her, and she shall have as much Room in the Cellar as she has occasion for, and the half of the Garden, and as many apples she may use, and they shall give unto her 60 Pounds of fat Pork, 40 Pounds of Beef, 14 Bushels of Wheat, and 6 Bushels of Rye, and sow one quarter of an acre with Flax-seed for her where they sow theirs, and deliver her six pounds of wool, all which she shall have every year and also have Firewood brought home and made small, and she shall have 50 Pounds in Money, which she shall have as long as she remains a widow and no longer, the said sum shall be paid as follows, 5 pounds yearly till the whole is paid, that she shall have and no more than is mentioned above, the sum to be paid out of the whole Estate, and she shall have a Chest which she may choose.
"And my sons Adam and Christian shall have the Plantation whereon they dwell, and shall pay every year 60 Pounds in good money and that for the space of three years, after which Time the Plantations shall be appraised by disinterested Men if they can keep them, but if they should not be able to manage them, then the Executors shall have a Right to sell, and to divide among the Heirs and whatever they shall have paid in part for the Plantations within the three years shall be refunded to them. When the Plantation is appraised the first Payment shall be two hundred Pounds and 50 Pounds every year in good Money till it is paid.
"And my Sons Philip and Samuel shall have the Planation as is above mentioned, and shall pay 60 Pounds good money every year for the space of three years, after which the Plantation shall be appraised by Men, and if they cannot manage it, then the Executors shall have a Right to sell and divide it among the Heirs, and whatever they shall have paid within the three years shall be repaid to them when the Plantations are sold. When the Plantation is appraised the first Payment shall be Two Hundred Pounds and the Rest in yearly payments of 50 Pounds good money. And my son John shall have 5 Pounds in Money aforehand, and no more than any of the others. And I do appoint my sons John Hammacher and Adam Hammacher to be Executors of this my last Will and Testament, and Martin Brandt Guardian.

On Oct 15, 1783, an inventory of Adam Hamaker's estate was recorded. The original document is on file at the Lancaster County Historical Society:
"A Just and True Inventory of all and Singular the Goods and Chattles, Rights and Credits Belonging to the Estate of Adam Hamaker of Derry Township Decd. Took by the Exrt. and Appraised by the Subscribers freeholders of Lancaster County on the 15th Day of October Annodomini 1783

The sum of all the items totaled £40.16.6. They included 8 table cloths at around 3 shillings each, 8 sheets totalling £1.0.0, 9 pillow cases totalling 12 shillings, 8 1/2 yards linen, 2 yards wollen cloth, 4 beds and bedsteads about £3 eacj. 1 wep,am saddle at 10 shillings, 1 chists, another bed, another chist, 1 brass kittle, 10 baggs, one Hundred Weight Hemp, 1 spining Wheel and Chear, 2 Hemp Heckels, 1 Reel and 9 Sickels, 3 Riddles and Half Bushel, 2 baskets and Sundrys, 2 old Locks, 6 chears, 1 talbe, 1 old Barrel, pewter plates, 3 pewter dishes, 3 porringers and 1 Quart, 1 pare Stillyards, 2 Double barrels, 3 Baggs, Sundry Carpenter Tools, Sledge & Crow Barr, 1 Hand Saw Drawing Kive Asees Wedge Manol. Rings & Rule, 3 planes, 1 Bed and Bed Sted, 3 Hundred Feet Boards, 1 old Iron pott, Horse Geers, 1 old Saddle, 4 Blind Bridles, 1 Iron Fetter, 2 Dung forks & Hay fork.
Also on file at the Lancaster County Historical Society is the following inventory of Adam Hamacker's estate. It is in the Archives E. I., 1784, b. 58, f. 3, Derry Township:
"1784 Inventory of Adam Hamacker Brot. over £40.6.6 [from the Oct 15, 1783 inventory]." All amounts are in pounds, shillings, pence, some items omitted:
"Wind mill 3.0.0, 1 cutting box 0.7.6, 1 stack hay 1.0.0, 6 cow chains 0.6.0, 1 plough 1.0.0, 1 pare Waggon Ladders 0.5.0, 1 old Waggon Bed 0.3.0, 1 plantation Waggon 3.0.0, 1 sled 0.1.0, 1 clock 1.0.0, 3 Iron Potts & 1 Crook 0.11.6, 1 coverlid 0.7.0, 1 Grind Stone and 2 Hemp Brakes 0.2.0, 1 Black Horse 16.0.0, 1 Black Colt 5.0.0, 1 Gray Do [ditto] 5.0.0, 4 Little Heffers 4.0.0, 3 Heffers & 1 Bull 7.10.0, 2 Colts 5.0.0, 4 Cows 12.0.0, 7 Hoggs 4.0.0, 4 Shotes 0.15.0, 12 Geese 0.18.0, 8 piggs 0.10.0, 7 Shoets 2.10.0, 3 Acre Turnips 4.10.0, 1 Small pile Boards 0.6.0, 5 Hundred Shingles, 1 Hemp Brake 0.1.6, 20 Sheep 5.0.0. the above Being Carefully Searched and Appraised by us thie Day and year above written 128.5.0. Jacob Hickler" Crossed off on the bottom of the inventory were the words: "to a Quantity of wheat, Rye and oats in the Barn not yet ascertaind to Some Indian Corn not yet Ascertained"
The second page was as follows:
"Brought over £128.5.0 Two Looms and Tacklings appraised to 13.6.0, two Collars to pair Chains & two blind bridles 1.0.0, one Loom 2.0.0, one Red & white Heffer 3.0.0, A Number of Books 5.0.0, 12 shirts 1 hat 1 pair Drawers 3 Coats & 2 Jackets 3.10.0, To 169 Bushels of Rye at 4/bl 33.16.0, To 216 Bushels of Wheat at 5/bl 58.18.0, To 196 Bushels of Oats at 2/bl 19.12.0, to 1 Gray Horse 25.0.0, Do. To one Do. 18.10, To 10 Bushels Indian Corn at 3/bl 1.15.0. Total £314.2.0. Exhibited into the Registers Office at Lancaster the 1st day of May 1784. (signed) John Hamakr, Adam Hamma Jr. The Extors. affirmed before me the Same day & year James Jacks Regst." "Jacob ?icler one of the appraisers affirmed before me the 15th day January 1784 James Jacks Regst."
Continuing the probate file:
"To James Jacob Esquire Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the County of Lancaster, I David Hammacher one of the sons of Adam Hamacher late of Derry Township, in the County aforesaid, yeoman deceased, do hereby enter a caveat against the proving a certain writing said to be the Last Will and Testament of the said Adam Hamacher deceased and also against granting Letters of Administration on the said Estate until I am hoard thereon. Witness my hand and seal this the 7th of November 1783."

    "I David Hamacher one of the sons of Adam Hamaker, late of Derry Township, Lancaster County, deceased, the within Caveator do upon mature Consideration withdraw the said Caveat being convinced I had no just reason for the same and also allow the writing porporting to be the last Will and Testament of the said Adam Hamacher deceased to be proved according to law.  Witness my hand and seal this 16th day of January 1784."

    On Jan 16, 1784, the following was filed in the Lancaster County Book D, Volume 1, pp. 409-410.  It is on file with the Lancaster County Historical Society.

"Lancaster County ss On the sixteenth day of January, anno domini 1784. Before the subscriber personally appeared George Minich one of the subscribing witnesses to the foregoing or within German Will, and on his solemn affirmation according to Law did declare and say that he was present and saw and heard Adam Hamacher the Testator in the within will named, sign seal publish pronounce and declare the within writing as and for his last Will and Testament, and that at the doing thereof he was of sound and well disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge observation and Belief, and also all that he saw Henry Etter the other subsribing witness to the within Will sign his name as a witness thereto at the same time.
"Lancaster County ss On the second day of February Anno Domini 1784 Before me the subscriber personally appeared Henry Etter the other subscribing witness to the within German Will and on his solemn affirmation according to Law did declare and say that he was present and saw and heard Adam Hamacher the Testator in the within will name, sign seal publish pronounce and declare the within writing as and for his last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound and well disposing mind memory and understanding to the best of his knowledge observation and Belief.
"Be it remembered that on the sixteenth day of January Anno Domini 1784 the Last Will and Testament of Adam Hammacher later of Derry Township, in the County of Lancaster yeoman deceased was proven in due Form of Law and Letters of Testamentary thereon were granted to John Hammacher and Adam Hammacher the Executors therein named they being first duly qualified well and truly to adminster the Estate of the said deceased and especially to exhibit a true and perfect Inventory thereof into the Register's Office at Lancaster - on or before the sixteen day of February next and to render a just and true account of their administration on the said estate within one year from the Date hereof or when thereunto lawfully required. Given under the seal of said Office

    On Feb 18, 1793, a deed of settlement listed five tracts of land and names eleven children, (Dauphin County Pennsylvania Deed Book G-1, p 375; Doc B. 9. 74)  It reads:

    "Heirs of Adam Hamacher Sr. to Adam Hamacher.  This Indenture Made this Eighteenth day of February in the Year of our Lord One thousand Seven Hundred & Ninety Three Between Henry Hamaker of Mifflin County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania yeoman To Mary his wife, Abraham Hamaker of Dauphin County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania aforesaid yeoman, Peter Hamaker of Lancaster County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania aforesaid yeoman, Isaac Hamaker of Dauphin County of in the Commonwealth aforesaid yeoman, David Hammaker of (blank) County in the State of Virginia yeoman & Ann his wife, Francis Groff of Lancaster County in the Comonwealth aforesaid yeoman and Eve his wife, Anthony Shoemaker of Lancaster County and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Yeoman and Elizabeth his wife, Adam Lombard of (blank) County in the State of Virginia and Salama his wife, John Etter of Lancaster County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania & Ann his wife, Christian Hamaker of Dauphin County in the County of Pennsylvania Yeoman  and Ann his Wife.  And Samuel Hammaker of Franklin County in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania aforesaid Yeoman and Ann his wife.  

    "(They the said Henry Hammaker Abraham Hamaker Peter Hammaker Isaac Hammaker David Hammaker Eve the wife of the said Frances Groff Elizabeth the wife of the said Anthony Shoemaker Salama the wife of the said Adam Lombard Ann the wife of the said John Etter Christian Hammaker and Samuel Hammaker being the children of Adam Hammacher late of the County of [then Lancaster but now] Dauphin aforesaid yeoman Deceased) of the one part and Adam Hammaker of the County of Dauphin in the Commonwealth aforesaid Esquire (Eldest son of the said Adam Hammaker Deceased) of the other part 

    "WHEREAS the late Proprietaries of the then Province of Pennsylvania by their Patent bearing date the Twenty First day of May in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Two Recorded in the office for the Recording of Deeds for the City and County of Philadelphia in Patent Book AA Vol. 3 page 313 etc. did give and assign forever a certain tract or piece of land situated in Derry Township in the (then Lancaster but now Dauphin County aforesaid in the said patent bounded and described as follows to-wit---- containing two hundred and ninety five Acres and the usual allowance of six per cent for roads and Highways and 

    "WHEREAS the said Proprietaries in and by their certain other patent bearing date the Twentieth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six Recorded in the office for Recording of Deeds for the City and County of Philadelphia in Com: Book A Vol 3 Page 197 etc. did give grant and confirm unto the said Adam Hammaker his heirs and assigns forever a certain other tract or piece of Land situate in Derry Township in County of Dauphinaforesaid bounded and described in the said Patent as follows to-wit-------containing One Hundred and Nineteen Acres and a half and allowance of six acres pec. for roads &c And 

    "WHEREAS the said Adam Hammaker in and by his last will and Testament bearing date on the Twenty ninth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty three duly proved and remaining in the Registers Office at Lancaster did give and devise the two tracts or pieces of Land above described unto his two sons Adam Hammaker and Christian Hammaker, subject to the Payment of the Valuation or Appraisement Money which was thereof made and ordered to be paid to the other children according to the directions contained in the will and last will and testament aforesaid as in and by the said will and testament will more fully and at large appear relation thereto being had and 

    "Whereas the said Proprietaries in and by their certain other Patent bearing date on the Twenty fourth day of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Four Recorded in the Office for Recording of Deeds for the City and county of Philadelphia in Patent Book AA Vol. 4 Page 520R did give grant and Confirm unto John Bridle his heirs and assigns forever a certain tract or piece of land situated in Derry Township in the County of Dauphin aforesaid in the said Patent bounded and described as follows to-wit----containing One Hundred and Seventy Four Acres----- and 

   "Whereas the said John Brindle and Catherine his wife ------ (sold to Adam Hammaker Oct. 21, 1773) And Whereas Joseph Shearer in and by his indenture bearing the date of the seventh of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Seventy Six (Sold to Adam Hammaker - ---- a certain bank of land on Swatara Creek in Paxton Township for the use of joining a mill-dam thereto Beginning-----) And 

    "Whereas the said Adam Hammaker in and by his last will and testament aforesaid did give and devise the above described tract or piece of 174 Acres unto his sons Philip Hammaker and Samuel Hammaker subject to the payment of the valuation thereof to the other children as aforesaid and whereas the said Adam Hammker being also in his life time and at the time of his death by virtue and in pursuance of some good and lawful grants warrants location or conveyances to him made seized and possessed of two certain other tracts or pieces of warranted or located Land one of them situate in West Hanover Township---- on Swatara Creek containing about Nineteen and one half Acres the other on Mahontongo Creek part in upper Paxton Township and part in Northumberland county ---containing about Three hundred Acres of which said two tracts of warranted or located land the said Adam Hammaker made no disposition either by will or otherwise and died intestate therefore the same descended to his children as heirs and Whereas the said Christian Hammaker and Samuel Hammaker having agreed to sell and convey to said Adam Hammaker Esquire (party thereto) his heirs and assigns as well as all their certain and respective moieties or shares and estates in the above described tracts of land divided unto them severally in and by the last will and testament of the said Adam Hammaker deceased as also their several and respective shares parts and estates of and in all the other lands and real estate of the said deceased And all the other children and parties above named have likewise agreed to sell and convey their several and respective shares parts and estates of and in all the above mentioned lands and real estate of the said deceased unto the said Adam Hammaker Esquire his heirs and assigns forever NOW this Indenture witnesseth that the said Henry etc. etc. for and in consideration of the sum of £1168/6/5 lawful money of Pennsylvania to them in hand paid (sell all their rights in above properties) 

    The final account of his executor listed no children.  (Lancaster County Guardian Accounts, Misc. 1800, p 324)

The Hammacher Family Burial Plot was discovered on Hershey Foods property in Hershey, Derry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania on Aug 6, 2002. Hershey Foods constructed a fenced cemetery and mounted the headstones on a memorial wall within the cemetery. Included was the headstone for Johann Adam Hammacher, dated 1784.
