John Baker of Boston, blacksmith, died at Boston July 1666. He was the brother of Katherine Johnson, named in his 1666 will. We don't know the names of their parents, but their uncles were Richard Baker of Dorchester & Thomas Baker of Roxbury.
1. To Joan Swift, purportedly bapt. Nov. 20, 1631 at Holy Trinity Church at Dorchester, England, d. July 21, 1663 at Boston, Mass.; m. Nov. 5, 1657 at Boston (by Gov. John Winthrop), John Baker. Three children of the family, but two died in infancy. [SIC] Surviving children were Thomas Baker & Elizabeth Humphrey
2. "Thankful Foster, dau of Lieut Hopestill Foster was married to John Baker of Boston 8th (11 mo) 1663." One child:
"Silence the Daughter of John Baker of Boston Deceased; was Born 28 (5 mo:) 1666." She married Joseph Eliot

(prob. ten) bef. 5 Nov. 1657, wh. date from the MS. vol. in the Boston office of reg. usual. vol. 1, p. 97 accept. as a rec. while it is only a copy, is truly print. from the false certif. of Gov. John Winthrop wh. d. 26 Mar. 1649 as the error may be read in Geneal. Reg. XI. 202. By her he had John, wh. d. young, 20 June 1654; Thomas, b. 12 Feb. 1654; Samuel, 16 Apr. 1650, d. in 3 mos.; Nathaniel, 4 Apr. 1656, d. soon; of wh. four ch. the false certif. on rec. would make all b. bef. the m. Also he had John, again, 17 July 1658, d. in few mos. and Elizabeth 26 June 1660; and d. I think in July 1666, leav. good est. but in his will of 26 Mar. preced. names only the s. Thomas, and d. Elizabeth For sec. w. he m. 8 Jan. 1664, Thankful, eldest d. of Hopestill Foster, had John, b. 26 Feb. 1665; and Silence, posthum. wh. d. soon. His widow long survived, d. 17 Jan. 1698.

Wife, son Thomas and daughter Elizabeth. Father Hopestill ffoster, uncle Richard Baker and cousin William [Garland?].
3 Jul 1666: Inventory of estate of John Baker Smith of Boston deceased: £798-19-00 plus debts (appear to be £97), by [water stained, unreadable names: Christopher B---, Joseph? Willis, Samuel? ---].
31 Jul 1666: Petition of Thankfull Baker widow to the late John Baker of Boston, Smith deceased, "leaving me an afflicted widow and also great with child", my portion much less than he intended, he sold interest in ship of Mr. Joseph Cocks, ship of Mr Wing was lost, was unable to change will, requests these items be made good to me out of the rests of the estate.

[Thomas having purchased Elizabeth's share, agreement sets off part to Silence and she quitclaims to Thomas any right to the remainder].
