John helped settle Wallingford, Conn.
John was a planter and cow keeper. On 8 Feb 1689/90, John Moss Sr. conveyed for "natural affection" to his well beloved cousin, John Beach, several pieces of land totaling 61 acres in whole (John was raised by John Moss after becoming an orphan). On 31 May 1680, the town of Wallingford granted liberty to John, to encourage him in cow keeping, to get 1000 pipe staves on the commons.
He was a Deacon in the church and a "Sabbath Day Guard" as a young man.
Beach Family Magazine, pub. 1923: He was of Wallingford where his Uncle John and his Uncle John's son John resided and for that reason called John Jr. He has been confused with John (2) and John (1) and has been taken for his son John (1), who was not called Jr. as he was junior to no one of that name in the community where he resided as will be hereafter seen. Much confusion has been caused because the name of his wife was entirely omitted from the original records but investigation started in 1923 has developed that his wife was Mary, dau. of Jonathan (2) Robert (1) Royce and his first wife Mary Spinning. This conclusion has been arrived at because the will of David (3) Jonathan (2) Robert (1) Royce makes distribution of his estate, among others, to his half-sister Mary Beach. The will of Jonathan (2) also leaves property to John Beach. Without the actual record of the marriage this seems to be conclusive. The writer has not found the record of the marriage of Mary Spinning and Jonathan Royce but competent authority on Connecticut genealogy gives the fact to be conclusive.
John went to Wallingford in 1673-4. He was a Deacon in the church. He was one of the "Sabbath day guards" when he was a young man. In 1680 the town of Wallingford granted him "liberty to geat 1000 pipe staves". In 1682-3 town grants land on ye plain". 1684 Town grants him more land and in 1686 he is chosen fence viewer. In 1688-9 he is granted more land. In 1689-90 John Morse Sr. deeds his well beloved cousin several parcels of land. In 1697 he was appointed "Committee on Highways". In 1704 he is granted more land. In 1709, April 26, his inventory is presented by the appraisers of his estate and his oldest son Thomas was administrator and his wife, Mary, appointed guardian of John and Samuel. His estate was appraised at L198-0-6 with debts due L16-14-6.
