This is John, the son of John Bowen of Roxbury, not John Bowen of Ashford. Be careful when adding sources and family.

Biography
John Bowen was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts on February 11, 1737. He was the first son and second known child of John Bowen and Mehitable (May) Bowen[1][2]
No evidence has been found that John ever married or had children.
Apparently John lived with his father, John Sr., and brother, Joshua, as in the Roxbury tax list of 1768 they are listed together. All three were assessed poll tax but only John's father was taxed for property. They are listed as Ensign John Bowen, John Bowen Jr. and Joshua Bowen. Presumably John's mother and sister shared a house with the three men.[3] Interestingly the packet of tax papers in question is addressed to John Bowen, Jr. Collector of Taxes.[4]
It appears that John died on August 16, 1775 in Needham, Massachusetts. A gravestone in the Needham village cemetery bears the inscription: "In Memory of Lieut John Bowen of Roxbury who died in this town Augt ye 16th 1775 in ye 38th year of his age." [5] That this gravestone must refer to John, son of John and Mehitable, is further evidenced by the fact that John Bowen Sr. on April 1, 1776 is named administrator of the probate of "John Bowen Jr late of Roxbury" and "Samuel Bowen, Sadler" (one of John Jr's brothers) is named a guarantor of the administration bond.[6][7]
