BROWN GENEALOGY, Vol II, by Cyrus Henry Brown, pp. 17 & 18.
JOHN BROWN (8), son of Thomas Brown and Mary Newhall his wife, b., Lynn, 1664; m., Stonington, Oct 1692, Elizabeth Miner, b. Apr. 1674; dau. of Ephraim and Hannah (Avery) Miner, and granddau. of Lieut. Thomas and Grace (Palmer) Miner.
John Brown, who was a carpenter, built his house on the western portion of the lands purchased by the three Brown brothers. The well is still to be seen, about one hundred rods south of the George Wheeler farm, owned later by Charles L. Brown, now (1914) by George A. Pendleton, where the compiler of there records was b., Nov. 29, 1929.

Brown Gen., v. 2, sez m., Stonington Oct. 1692, Elizabeth Miner, b. Apr. 1674;
dau. of Ephraim and Hannah (Avery) Miner & granddaughter of Lt. Thomas and Grace
(Palmer) Miner. John Brown was a carpenter and built his house on the western
portion of the lands purchased by the three Brown brothers.
This apparently is now (1990) a small part of the enlarged house of
Jack and Sally (Pendleton) Sylvia on Rocky Hollow Road in North Stonington
that was visited by Louis B. Bate. Mrs. Sylvia's grandfather, Sheriff George
Pendleton, used to lock his prisoners in the farm's ice house when he owned the
property.
John Brown built many houses in Stonington.
Brown Genealogy says:
The three brothers, Thomas, John and Eleazer I, sold their possessions in
Reading (previously Lynn), Mass., and settled in Stonington, Conn. All came to
Connecticut "at maturity" sometime after 1677. Their cattle marks were recorded
in Stonington in May 1688. They purchased adjoining farms near Browne's
Mountain. Stonington was later divided, and the Brown brothers lived in what is
now North Stonington.
