About John Burroughs, of Newtown
John and Elizabeth had one son together: John Jr. in 1665, who was granted land in John Senior's will.
John died in Newtown, Queens Co., which is now called Elmhurst.
John was the son of John Burroughs and his wife, Elizabeth, whose maiden name is disputed.
He married Margaret Woodward about 1690 in Newtown. They became the parents of John (Jr.), and two other children whose names are unknown, possibly because they died young.
John Jr.'s accepted year of birth (1684), however, does not coincide well with his parents' year of marriage.

Biography
John was born perhaps in 1665 in Newtown, Long Island, the son of JohnBurroughs and his second wife Elizabeth.
SOURCE NEEDED -- the source of given exact date of June 22, 1665 is unknown
Riker: page 383-384 Cooley: Page 17 Jordan: Page1669 are in agreement that John Burroughs Jr., son of "John the Immigrant", was theonly son born to John and his second wife.
This is supported by the fact that she named only one son "Burroughs" in her will of 1679.
Sources also agree that John married Margaret Woodward, daughter of Lambert Woodward, Jesup: Page49 that John died in 1699, and that John and Margaret had several children, including one named John.
Investigating their children further, things become less clear. Some sources say that the son John was the man who came to Ewing Township, New Jersey around 1700 and was an early settler of Trenton.<ref name="Cooley"/><ref name="Jordan" />. Other sources <ref name="Riker" /> say that John was the son of Jeremiah Burroughs (another son of John the Immigrant) and that nothing is known of the descendants of John and Margaretother than that one of the children was named John.
It seems unlikely that John of Trenton was the son of John and Margaret since John of Trenton signed a document in 1703, so should have been21 years old by then. If this date is correct, it is quite unlikely John was the son of a man born in 1665.On the other hand, on September9, 1701 land was laid out for John Burroughs son of John Burroughs late deceased of Newtown<ref>Riker, James, Historical Notes of Newtown"; citing research of Steve Warling available online [http://swarling.mywebcommunity.org/burroughs/newtown0001.htm#id15062]</ref>.
Possible Children
Mary Burroughs, Elizabeth Burroughs, John Burroughs, Sara Ann Burrows. These children were listed with no sources. Another unsourced statement said son John lived from 1684 to 1772, which does not match the data at the linked son John.
Research Notes
At some point was added to this profile that John was born in New Utrecht in Kings County and passed away in Elmhurst (an anachronistic namefor his Newtown), sources unknown. The same source states John and Margaret married in 1684, source unknown. Torrey writes simply "ca. 1690 ?"
