About Capt. John Denison

Captain John Denison, of Stonington, Connecticut, was the son of Edward and Mercy Denison. He was a prominent businessman and largely interested in the West-India trade. He married Mary, daughter of Doctor James Noyes, and sister of James Noyes (Yale College, 1726). Her grandfather was the Reverend James Noyes (Harvard College, 1659), for over fifty years the pastor of Stonington, and was the senior member of the original Board of Trustees of Yale College. Their third son was Captain Jesse Denison (Yale College, 1756).

John Denison was born in 1701 at Stonington, Connecticut. He was the second child of Mercy Hedge and Edward Denison.

He married 4 times, all at Stonington:

  1. in 1720, Ann Denison; one child named Ann, born & died in infancy, 1821. Ann died soon thereafter, drowned in a well.
  2. About 1724 Mary Noyes; they had at least 5 children
  3. 7 Jul 1743 Rebekah Noyes; they had 6 children
