John Harrison was born 25 September 1691 Oyster Bay, Nassau County, New York, the son of Isaiah and Elizabeth Wright Harrison. He married Phoebe. He died in Old Augusta now Rockingham County, Virgina in May 1771.

John was the second son of Isaiah Harrison and his first wife Elizabeth Wright. They lived in Oyster Bay L.I. When John was about 7 his mother died. His father remarried Abigail Smith and they moved to Smithtown. Isaiah and Abigail moved to Maidenhead Plantation in Delaware or sometimes referred to the "Jersies" - 8 miles west of Lewes. About 8 years after I and A left for Delaware John and his wife Phoebe (maybe Smith or Townsend, I am not sure and neither are the researchers I have read, know her maiden name. Phoebe his wife was 5 years older than John. John was a cordwinder - a maker of top quality leather boots whicxh he learned the trade from his Wright grandfather Gideon. John and Phoebe were among the 16 family who left for VA. Abigail, son Gideon and daughter Elizabeth had died. Isaiah Jr. the first born went to NC..Along was the kids of Abigail. Thomas, Daniel, Jeremiah, Samuel and daughter Abigail and some spouses. In VA John settled on Big Springs . For more see Settlers on the long grey trail by J. Houston Harrison. Abigail children were Thomas, Daniel, Jeremiah, Abigail (Herring) and Samuel. None married a Hood.
