About John Henry Dorsett Dickey
John Henry Dorsett Dickey was also known as " Doc" because he, like his mother Mary Elizabeth, worked as a folk healer, using herbs and 'drawing out' the illness from the body. Professionally, he was not a medical doctor but a masseur.
Though all genealogies indicate he was born in "Black Bottom", Kansas, there is no such place. There was however a place called "Black Bob", Kansas, which at the time the Dickeys lived in Kansas, were Shawnee lands, inhabited by both Shawnee and settlers.
