John Hubbard, a Quaker, who is said to have come to Caroline Co. from Pennsylvania; his first land grant was in 1719. This John also owned land in Amelia and Brunswick Counties and he died in Amelia Co. in 1745; have his will and inventories of his property both in Amelia and Caroline Co. John was of both Amelia & Caroline Co., with most of his property in Caroline (personal property). His son John died in Caroline Co., 1755; George Carter was his executor and was guardian for his minor children "Daniel, Mary, Eusebious, and John Jr. Hubbard (I Geo. Carter d. 1789, w. Frances Diana Carter, son Goodloe & chil. Car. Co.).[1]

The Hubbard Family Genealogical News Letter, Issue #6, page 130, St. Louis Genealogical Society Library indicates:

John Hubbard, Junr., of Caroline and Amelia Counties, son of John and Elizabeth Hubbard of New Kent, married (1) Mary Harrison sister of Richard Harrison who mentions John Hubbard in his fragmentary will in 1722.

This proves that this John Hubbard was of both Amelia & Caroline Co., with most of his property in Caroline (personal property) and in Quaker records of Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting, Louisa & Caroline Counties, 1744, 10 da 9 mo, Peter Hubbard, Caroline Co. son of John Hubbard of Amelia Co. to Agnes Chiles dau of Manoah Chiles, Caroline Co. & George Hubbard son of John Hubbard of Caroline Co. m. in Quaker meeting 1739-40, 1 /19, to Judith Crew, dau John Crew of Charles City Co., Va. & in 1741, John Hubbard is appointed overseer of the poor.

Now we find that John Hubbard of Amelia and John Hubbard of Caroline are the same John.

Will of John Hubbard Jr.

The Hubbard Family Genealogical News Letter April 1975, Issue 15 Page 394. Paragraph 3022/23. "CHARLES HUBBARD". John Hubbard Jr. left will 1745 Amelia Co. Will Book 1, 1734-1761, p 34.

  • 'Know all christian people by these presents that I, John Hubard, of Amelia County I give to my daughter Usley and my daughter Mary 400 acres of land which I bought of my s Richard to be equally divided between them both, the oldest to lay the said land off and the youngest to take her choice.
  • I give to my s sevious and my s Daniel, the 400 acres of land that I had of my s George to be equally divided between them, my s Daniel to lay it off and my s Usevious to take his choice.
  • & I give to my s John and my s James the 400 acres of land which lies in Brunswick, the land that I had of my s Peter, to be equally divided between them both, my s James to divide it and my s John to take his choice.
  • I leave all my negroes and all my household goods and my cattle, sheep, hogs and horses to my well beloved w Sarah Hubard, during her widowhood to the supporting of my family.
  • My will and desire is that my w Sarah Hubbard and John Ellis and William Evins may be whole and sole executores this being my last will and testament, making vold all other will or wills herefore made by as witness my hand and seal this 12 day of May 1745.
  • Witness: John Hubbard (mark)."
