About John Lanier, Sr.
A Patriot of the American Revolution for GEORGIA. DAR Ancestor # A069086
John Lanier was baptized on October 28, 1738 in Albemarle Parish, Surry County, Virginia.
He died in Bulloch County, Georgia. Sarah Mills was his wife. John lived first in Burke
County, then Bryan County and finally Bulloch County, without ever moving. When Bulloch
County was formed in February of 1796, the boundary lines read: - "to begin at John Laniers,
including the same on the Ogeechee River, and thence a direct line to be drawn to where Lotts
Creek emties (sic) into the Canouchee River, then up the Canouchee River, to the Montgomery
line, thence along the said line to the Ogeechee River, and down the said River to the beginning,
which county will be called Bulloch." John Lanier operated a ferry across the Ogeechee River
at this point, where the dividing line between Bryan and Bulloch ran into the river.
