John was born 1653 in England, the son of Richard Martin and Elizabeth Salter. He married Mercy Billington, daughter of Francis Billington, a Mayflower Passenger, in 1681. John passed away in 1720. [1]
According to the Mayflower Society "Silver book" on John Billington, John Martin came to Rehoboth from England between 1660 and 1664 with his father Richard, who died in 1695. John inherited the homestead and other property in Rehoboth and continued to reside there. During King Philip's War in 1676 John paid his father's tax and was himself a soldier in that conflict, from Rehoboth. In 1740 his son, John Martin, of Rehoboth was awarded bounty land for his father's service. John Martin, son of Richard, was always of Rehoboth, never of Swansea.[2]

• John Martin and Joanna Esten were divorced. John Martin was christened on 20 January 1653 at Ottery St. Mary, Devonshire, England. He married Joanna Esten, daughter of Thomas Esten and Ann Thomas, on 26 April 1671 at Swansea, Bristol, MA. John Martin married Mercy Billington, daughter of Francis Billington and Christian Penn, on 27 June 1681 at Rehoboth, Bristol, MA. John Martin died on 28 August 1720 at Rehoboth, Bristol, MA, at age 67.
