John Mayhew, Jr.

John Mayhew was born in 1676 and lived as a farmer at Chilmark, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Mayhew and Elizabeth Hilliard. John married in 1701 at Martha’s Vineyard, Mehitable Higgins,[1] whose residence and parentage is unknown, but it is probable that she came from Rhode Island. John died at Chilmark, Massachusetts, 3 Mar 1736, aged about 60.[2][3]

John Mayhew was born in 1676 and lived as a farmer at Chilmark, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Mayhew and Elizabeth Hilliard. John married in 1701 at Martha’s Vineyard, Mehitable Higgins,[1] whose residence and parentage is unknown, but it is probable that she came from Rhode Island. John died at Chilmark, Massachusetts, 3 Mar 1736, aged about 60.[2][3]

John was at one time the constable of Chilmark.[4] In 1725, he seized livestock from Quakers Peleg Slocum and John Tucker for the building a Presbyterian meeting house.[4]
