Death of John T. McDermott John T. McDermott, one of the oldest ranchers of Lamoille Valley, died in the German Hospital, San Francisco, Saturday evening. He had been ill for some months , but was able to be around until a couple of weeks ago when he went to San Francisco for treatment. It seemed to be a general breaking down of the system. Friday a telegram was received from the hospital that he was failing, and his eldest daughter immediately made preparations to go to his bedside, but while waiting for the train here, another telegram came announcing his death. His wife and eldest daughter died some time ago, but two sons and two daughters survive him. The remains arrived from San Francisco on Tuesday night's train, and were met by a delegation and taken to the A. O. U. W. hall, where services were held, deceased being a member of the order. At the conclusion of the services, the remains were escorted to Lamoille and laid in their last resting place , in the family plot at the ranch. A large delegation of Elko friends attended the funeral in Lamoille, and Rev. Father Butler conducted the services there. Deceased was 55 years of age.

J.T.'s will divided all he owned between his four living children, Nora, Ellie, Frank and James Bartholomew McDermott, he also left money to his beloved granddaughter Pauline Dorothy Wines.

J.T 's younger brother Bartholomew McDermott died from a fall in the Ruby mountains in 1878 , J.T and Nan named their son James Bartholomew in honor of him.His older brother,Patrick Henry "P.H." McDermott, died in 1896 and is buried in Elko Cemetery. J.T. helped care for his widow and children after P.H. died.
