About John Pritchard

Biography
John Pritchard was born at Broseley, Shropshire in 1789 to John Pritchard and Anne Yates. In 1813 he married Harriett Gilbert and in that calendar year it seems their first child Mary Ann Pritchard was born in the Parish of Madeley; being christened in Madeley Parish Church in January, 1814. John Pritchard was noted in the Parish Baptism Record as a Currier. When their second daughter, Harriett, was born the family were living in Upholland, Lancashire. He was recorded in Harriett's Baptismal record, an Excise Officer. He continued in Crown service until he retired. As an Excise Officer he was required to move from place to place in the service as policy and resources required, and so it was he move on to Hertfordshire, to Hampshire, where he lived for a time in Winchester and in Millbrook near Southampton and given the marriage record of his daughter, Harriet, also lived in Wiltshire -at or near Ditchampton. Sarah their third daughter was born in or near Kings Langley where she was christened in 1819 the daughter of 'John and Harriet Pritchard' -his occupation, an 'Officer of Excise'. Members of the Brown family into which Mary Ann married in 1836 have stated that John Pritchard was in charge of the Revenue Service along the South coast of Hampshire.

John Pritchard was buried at Ringwood Cemetery: May 1st 1877 -Grave no. W003
