Bio: "John Proudfoot, who was born in Scotland about 1750, came to this country while a young man. He was very highly educated for the ministry in the Presbyterian Church.
He married Lenora Hitt, a German girl of Virginia. They lived in Taylor's Drain, below Philippi, Barbour County, WV. He died in 1823 & his wife in 1829. Both were buried at Mary's Chapel near Taylor's Drain.
John Proudfoot, his son, was the grandfather of Mahala Jane Weaver (mother of Samuel Braxton Gainor) who married for his first wife, Agness Glasscock, and for his second wife, Rebecca Thomson (Mahala Jane's grandmother). These grandparents lived and died on Taylor's Drain."

John booked passage from the Port of London on the ship, Elizabeth, in route to Virginia, November 21, 1774. He came [from Scotland] to America as an indentured servant and stated his occupation "at the time" as a hair dresser. He was granted one hundred acres of land by Denny Fairfax on November 19, 1791 in Fauquier County, Va. John sold this land to Thomas O. Bannon for "fifty pounds" on November 17, 1801.
John married Leonora Hitt, a native of Fauquier County, Va. and of German descent.
