John Rice
Children born at Dedham, Norfolk, Massachusetts
Notes
Y-DNA evidence indicates John was not the son of Edmund Rice. For further information, please see the Wikipedia article, which includes a discussion of what STR's have shown in genetic tests.
Several internet-based genealogical sources claim royal ancestry of Edmund and his descendants. These claims of royal ancestry with connection to Rhys ap Gruffydd (c 1508-1531) of Wales and his son William Rice (1522-1588) of Buckinghamshire are most certainly in error. All these claims of royal ancestry have been traced by Gary Boyd Roberts and others to a 1911 book By the Name of Rice written and self-published by Charles Elmer Rice of Alliance, Ohio.
We don't know John Rice's age. Some people say he was born September 1624 at Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire, England, but that seems to be left over from the old days when many thought he was a son of Edmund Rice.
Dedham was incorporated in 1636. The first mention of John Rice is his 1649 marriage to Ann Hackley. It seems likely that he was there earlier, perhaps underage and living in the household of a relative.
