Biography
John was born to Henry and Ruth in 1649 at Exeter, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. John moved to Haverhill,, Essex Co., Mass. in 1675. He lived in that part of the town that fell into New Hampshire at the establishment of "Mitchell Line'. His house was within the limites of the present town of Atkinson. He married Ann Corliss on Nov. 1, 1677 in Haverhill. John was killed by Indians near Haverhill, Essex Co., Mass the 16th of June 1691; just 15 days after his wife's death. Thus they left seven children orphans, none over twelve years of age. It appears that the children went to live with his brother Samuel in Hampton, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. Some of the children, in particular Joanna, Sarah and Mary are sometimes said to be the children of their grandparents, so apparently they sometimes stayed with the grandparents as well as their Uncle Samuel. At the same time that John was killed, his son Ichabod was taken prisoner, but later escaped. (Source: The Morris Clan.com/Genealogy/Robie)
