A Patriot of the American Revolution for NORTH CAROLINA. DAR Ancestor # A112296

Notes from Walter Berg's World Connect Tree wberg.me55@gtalumni.org

John B. Tabor was a Revolutionary War soldier according to the memories of his grandson, James Sharpe Tabor, even though his war record has never been discovered. He fought in the Battle of King's Mountain and elsewhere according to an article in the Atlanta Constitution appearing on Wednesday, October 4, 1899.

He appears on the Rutherford County, NC tax rolls in 1782 (T160).

His signature appears on a petition to His Excellency, Josiah Martin,Governor of the Province of North Carolina, trying to free one John Truitt. His signature also appears on a petition to partition off a portion of Orange Co., NC along with James Tabor, Abraham Womack, David Womack and John Womack. He owned many slaves and a considerable amount of land in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. He executed his Will on 24 Sep 1805. The Will was admitted to probate in January 1806. He left his estate to his wife for lifetime, and then provided that the estate be divided equally among his children. He gave his youngest son, Ely, a horse in addtion to his regular share.

There is a story that he was once running for the legislature. His detractors thought his baptism was politically motivated and made up a ditty something to the effect of: "Old John Tabor, though once a Tory, has now been washed and is bound for glory."
