John was born about 1654. John Tarbell ... He passed away in 1715. [1] Salem, Essex, Massachusetts, USA

According to Carol Marie (Baldwin) Stephens in her book TWIGS AND BRANCHES OF THE BALDWIN - FOUGHT FAMILY TREE, 1998, this John Tarbell was the son of an earlier John Tarbell (I), and a grandson of Thomas Tarbell, Jr. He married Mary Nurse, daughter of Francis and Rebecca Nurse, on October 25, 1678 in Salem Village, Massachusetts. Children: John Tarbell, Jr. (III), Mary, Cornelious, Jonathan, Elizabeth, Sarah. This list is "ify" and there may be others yet to be found.

John testified on behalf of his mother-in-law Rebecca Nurse who was eventually hanged as a witch in Salem. See [1]

In 1970 a descendant erected a marker for John Tarbell but none for his wife, Mary.

Their suggestion: In 1902, the original headstone was still standing. I found the transcription in "The Essex Antiquarian" - Volume VI - 1902 - Page 156. The headstone that is currently standing, copied the words exactly from the original headstone. A copy of this is attached to his memorial.
