John emigrated with his parent and siblings on the LADY NUGENT which left Gravesend on October 21 1840, arriving in Port Nicholson (Wellington) on 17th March 1841
His mother died 7 years after arrival in New Zealand. His father remarried 2 years later.
John married Rosetta when he was 19 and she was 16
They had 13 children from 1852 to 1873 by which time he was 42 and Rosetta was about 39.
Rosetta died aged 65 in 1899
John remarried 2 years later when he was 70
