John Wallace of Auchans and Dundonald, here treated, was formerly known as John Wallace of Inchgotrig, He was the tutor of Craigie and the bailie principal of Kyle-Stewart

John Wallace of Inchgotrid, afterwards known as John Wallace of Dundonald, is noticed as tutor of Craigie on 22 April 1543, RMS, 1600-20: 1578 and then again on 3 July 1545. NRS: GD8/132 He is noticed as Bailie Principal of Kyle-Stewart on 10 February 1557. NRS: GD3/1/1/30/22

Death

John Wallace of Auchans and Dundonald died before 16 October 1572, the date upon which his eldest son John was served as heir to his deceased father. The Book of Wallace. Volume I: 138

First Marriage

John Wallace of Dundonald married Katherine Kennedy, widow of William Lord Herries. RMS, 1513-46: 3151 She must have died before 24 October 1573, by which date her husband had married for a second time. RMS, 1546-80: 2149

Second Marriage

John Wallace of Auchans and Dundonald married Agnes Stewart, daughter of Sir John Stewart of Minto and sister of Walter, Lord Blantyre. The Book of Wallace: 138 She and her husband had a charter for the lands of Burnesyd on 24 October 1573. RMS, 1546-80: 2149

22 April 1543: Charter issued by Master Thomas Huchesone, chaplain of the chapel of Saint Ninian of Dundonald, on 28 April 1543. By his charter Master Thomas confirmed that he has given a feu charter for the following lands to JOHN WALLACE OF INCHGOTRIG,TUTOR OF CRAIGIE; viz. the five merk lands of Plewlands, the four merk lands of Gretriggs, the one merk lands of Gauriggs, the one merk lands of Holmes of Dundonald, together with the manse and glebe of the chaplainry. His charter was confirmed under the Great Seal of Scotland on 28 April 1543. RMS, 1600-20: 1578

Note: Before 28 January 1617 John Wallace, now of Dundonald, grandson and heir of the deceased John Wallace of Inchtogrig, quitclaimed and gave up any rights he may have had in this land.

3 July 1545: Act, ordaining JOHN WALLACE, TUTOR OF CRAIGIE, as principal, Hugh Wallace of Carnweill, John Wallace of Meynfuid and Hugh Wallace in Aucharris, as cautioners to Robert Boyd of Kilmarnock, for resignation by him in favour of the said JOHN of the £20 land of DUNDONALD and the sum of 900 marks. 10 July 1545: Charter which confirms possession of the lands of DUNDONALD to JOHN WALLACE, TUTOR OF CRAIGIE. Dundonald had previously resigned in favour of JOHN WALLACE by Robert Boyd in Kilmarnock, with the consent of his wife Agnes Sommerville and his son Robert Boyd. RMS, 1513-46: 3136

21 August 1545: Charter which confirms possession of the lands of DUNDONALD to JOHN WALLACE, TUTOR OF CRAIGIE, and his wife LADY KATHERINE KENNEDY, widow of William Lord Herries. The land is to be held by them in conjunct fee and liferent, and by their lawful male heirs in feu ferme, whom failing by JOHN WALLACE'S lawful heirs. RMS, 1513-46: 3151

23 May1549: Extract decree (dated 6 Apr 1549) in the action at the instance of Robert, Lord Boyd of Kilmarnock, and his assignee, William, Lord Semphill, to the reversion of the lands of Previk, against Elizabeth Campbell, relict of William Wallace, warditor of Craigie, the late William, Earl of Glencairn, her spouse, for his interest, and John Wallace, her nephew, and the said WILLIAM [WALLACE, WARDITOR OF CRAIGIE] and JOHN WALACE, HIS TUTOR. 11 March 1551-52: Letter of reversion by William Dalrimpill [Dalrymple] of Laucht to Jonet Dalrimpill, his "darrest sister", undertaking that if Marion, his sister, or her heirs shall succeed him in the £5 lands of Cameragane they shall resign them to the said Jonet or her heirs on payment of 500 merks on the high altar of the parish church of Aire [Ayr]. 24 October 1573: Charter by which James VI, King of Scots, confirms possession of the forty shilling lands called Burnesyd, located in the parish of Dundonald in the Kyle-Stewart division of Ayrshire, to JOHN WALLACE OF DUNDONALD and his wife AGNES STEWART. The land is to be held by them in conjunct fee and liferent, and by their lawful male heirs in feu ferme, whom failing to John's heirs and assignees. RMS, 1546-80: 2149

24 December 1575: Charter by John Wallace of Craigie, son and heir of deceased John Wallace of Craigie with the advice and consent of Hugh Wallace of Carnell, JOHN WALLACE OF DUNDONALD, Mr Michael Wallace de [C]rawfurd, his curators for their interest in implementation of a contract between himself with the consent of his curators and Lord James, Earl of Morton, Lord Dalkeith at Edinburgh and Ayr of sale and alienation in favour of Lord James of 40 merk land of old extent of Thuristoun (Thurston), Wodhall (Woodhall) and Waddilie (Weatherley), 20 pound land of Thuristoun and Wodhall, 10 merk land of Woddilie in property and tenandry in the barony and sheriffdom of Renfrew by annexation to hold in property and tenandry of the king as prince and stewart of Scotland. At Edinburgh and Ayr, 24th and 28th December 1575.
