No one really knows the birth date of John Wesley White III, also known as “Jack”. I use the middle name of Wesley, for his grandfather was “I” and his father, a “Jr.”. He would most likely be J.W. “Jack” White III.

One of the best authoritive sources about this family is an 1896 publication about Logan, West Virginia, by Ragland. From that we garner the fact that prior to 1830, John White (II), Jack’s father, arrived in Logan, West Virginia, with grown children. The Whites bought their land from James, Joseph, and Nimrod Workman on the waters of the Cole River. John White (II) had served in the Revolutionary War. On closer inspection, though it makes a good story, John’s (II) sons were too young to serve with him in the Revolution, and Indian activity seemed to be nil here in 1830. However, this information would be accurate if the author was originally referring to John White (l).

John “Jack’s” children are mentioned:

1. William married Editha White (I believe this fact, as I pointed out to S. Olafson, historian for Boone Co, is inaccurate. Editha is the daughter of John. William is the son of his brother, Benjamin. I’m aware of the published records…….)
2. John married Susannah Elkins
3. Thomas
4. James
5. Reuben
6. Isaac
7. Charles
8. Major
9. Elijah
10. Hiram
11. Masten
12. Judith married James Thompson

We know from the census records, the Whites lived in Giles, Virginia, prior coming to arriving at Cabell, then Logan, West Virginia. The family farmed on the Island of Cole Creek (Ragland). John “Jack” White continued to live in Logan for the rest of his life and died near 100 years of age. (1850 listed as 80 years old. 1860, 95). His death date is not known.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Apr 17 2022, 8:05:57 UTC
