OBITUARY: John F. White, 84, who had lived on the same farm near Abo for the past sixty-three years, died at his home at 4 o'clock Tuesday morning. Born May 9, 1855, in Alvon, West Virginia, the son of Robert and Ruth White, [should be Alexander & Ruth Hefner White] who came to this country from Ireland, he came to Laclede County when he was twenty-one years old and for more than a half a century engaged in farming. His wife, the former Mary Anne Rippy, to whom he had been married forty years, died in 1922. Fourteen children were born to Mr. and Mrs. White, but only two of them survive, M.W. White of Correctionville, Iowa, and Mrs. Reva Rogers of Aromas, California. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandchild surviving. Mr. White had been a member of the Abo Christian Church. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Rippy Cemetery, the Rev. W. M. Kerr officiating. The son, M.W. White, and a grandson, Eulis Lewis of Anthon, attended the funeral.

According to the History of Laclede County, 1979, William T. Murrell was the first Postmaster at Abo and was appointed March 8, 1890, followed by John F. White, who lived in the Rippy School District near Abo, Laclede Co., Missouri. They both had the post office in their homes.

Children of J.F. & Mary Ann White:

  • *Sarah Etta (wife of (1) Major C. Lewis & (2) Mrs. James Irwin
    • Millard Wilbern "Webb" White (1895-1959)
    • Reva Alma White (Mrs. Vester "Wes") Rogers (1905-2000), **Ada Adeline White (Mrs. Francis) Randolph (1908-1931)
all four above lived to adulthood.

Information an the children of this family would be in the Abo Christian Church records. When the church closed, the records were taken by a person or persons unknown and have to date never been located.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Aug 27 2019, 23:14:55 UTC
