About John Randolph Whitehead

John Randolph Whitehead was born on August 26, 1856, in Poinsette County, Arkansas. He married Virginia Vandora “Jenny” “Dora” Edwards on December 26, 1877 in Dunklin County, Missouri.. They had children Laura Jean, John W., Joseph L., Charley G., Pina, and Damie Whitehead. In 1880, John and Virginia lived in Union, Dunklin County, next door to John's parents. He was a farmer. In 1900, they lived in Union with children John, Joseph, Charles and Pina. John died on December 9, 1907, in Dunklin County. He was buried in Gum Cemetery in Naylor, Ripley, Missouri. His tombstone inscription reads 'J.R. Husband of Dora; He is not dead but sleeping; Their toils are past, Their work is done, They fought the fight, The victory won.'
