About Laura Jean Crawford-McMurtry
Laura Jean Whitehead was born on June 11, 1882, in Campbell, Missouri. She married a man with the last name Crawford. They had a daughter named Nora Crawford. In 1910, Laura and Nora were living in Beaver Dam, Butler, Missouri. She married George William McMurtry1 and they had children Iva, Inez, George R., Albert W., Melvin M., Oscar A. and Leamon Harold McMurtry. In 1910, Laura and George were living in Beaver Dam, Butler, Missouri, with their daughter Iva, George's children from his previous marriage and Laura's daughter Nora. In 1920, Laura and George were living in Washington, Ripley, Missouri, with their six oldest children. In 1930, they were living in Varner, Ripley County, with five of the six youngest children. By that time, Albert had died of pneumonia. Laura died on August 15, 1954 in Naylor, Ripley County, as a result of a brain hemorrhage that was caused by hypertension. She was buried in Gum Cemetery in Naylor. Her tombstone inscription reads “Mother”.
