Birth

Born: About 1646, presumably in Charlestown, Massachusetts where his parents were still living. No birth or baptism record has been found for him. Marriage and Children

Married: Hannah Atherton on 17 July 1672 at Lancaster, Massachusetts. "John Wilder & Hannah his wife, 17 . 5 . 72" [1] Children of John Wilder and Hannah Atherton: John Wilder. Born 11 July 1673 in Lancaster. [2] Thomas Wilder. Born 2 March 1676 in Charlestown. [3] [4] Abigail Wilder. Born about 1678, birth record not found. She is called eldest daughter in the will of her father. [5] She is therefore slotted in the gap between Thomas and Hannah whose birth dates are known. Hannah Wilder. Born 31 October 1679 at Charlestown. [6] James Wilder. Born 1681 at Charlestown. [7] Died 17 May 1739 in the 59th year of his age. Ebenezer Wilder. Born 23 June 1683 at Lancaster. [8] Rebekah Wilder. She is known from the will of her father where she is the second daughter named as Rebekah Whetcomb. There were many Whetcombs in Lancaster at the time, however, her husband has not yet been identified. She is placed in the gap between Ebenezer and Anna, though only thing we really know regarding her birth is that Abigail was older. [5] Anna Wilder. Born 1690 at Charlestown. [9] Deborah Wilder. Lancaster was abandoned after the massacre of February 10, 1676 and John and Hannah left Lancaster for Charlestown, where several of their children were born. They returned to Lancaster about 1881, and remained there until their deaths. This per "Early Records of Lancaster" by Henry Nourse, pub 1884; pages 318-325

Died: January 9, 1718 in Lancaster "in his 70th year". Buried: The Old Common Burying Ground in Lancaster, Massachusetts. [11] Will: Will of John Wilder of Lancaster, 1718. John is mentioned in the book, "Book of the Wilders: A Contribution to the History of the Wilders from 1497 ..." which can be found online here: https://books.google.com/books?id=YxlMAQAAIAAJ&printsec=frontcover&... (see page 10), by Moses Hale Wilder, which has been updated and reprinted many times. This book says about John, page 14: "John Wilder, son of Thomas, married in 1673; his wife's name was Hannah. At the Indian War he fled to Charlestown, where two of his children were baptized; his daughter Hannah was born in 1679, in Marlboro. We know not when he returned to Lancaster, but that it is supposed to have been the place of his abode, and we know not the time of his death. He was one of the original proprietors of the town of Worcester, but it is not known that he ever resided there. He had six children, four sons and two daughters, most of whom lived in South Lancaster, then known as Six Nations, and now the town of Clinton, from which it is supposed that their father's home was there."
