Thomas married Mary Houghton on June 20, 1668. He was executor of his father's will, and succeeded to his estate. Though married in 1668, his oldest child known was born in 1680. It is not improbable that other children were lost in the Indian massacres; the troubled times prevented the preservation of the record of events until the commencement of the next century. 1700. We know very little of the history of Thomas during or after the war. There are indications that he fortified his house, and made it a place of protection for other families. He died in 1717.
Note: The Wilder house was fortified as a garrison house. A list of Frontier Garrisons of 1711 shows "Captain Wilder, 7 families, 11 men inhabitants, 1 soldier, 47 souls" Apparently at least half were children and life within the stockade would have been ghetto existence. (Blackman)
