He inherited his father's homestead farm in 1740 where he lived the rest of his life and is buried nearby.
1740, September 1- He appeared at a meeting of the Scituate, RI Town Council
when the probate of his father's will was acted upon, and informed
the Council that he was about 16 years of age and had chosen
his brother Joseph, Jr. as his guardian, whereupon he was appointed.
He served in the American Revolution.
1801, February 24- He made his will.
1805, November 18- He died at the age of 81 years. He was laid to rest in the Tucker Hollow Cemetery. His gravestone is well preserved and reads: "In Memory of Mr. Jonah Hopkins who departed this life November 18th 1805 Aged 81 years and 3 days. He was an affectionate Husband and Indulgent Parent a benevolent Friend and a Valuable Citizen." Also a proverb is included, "Behold and see as you pass by, As you are now so once was I, As I am now so must you be, So think of death and follow me."
Half-Siblings: Joseph (c.1705-1800) married Mary Padden and Orziel (1707-c.1768) married Martha Tucker- widow of John Rhodes.
Siblings: Jeremiah married Dorcas Harendeen, Abner married Mary Pray-daughter of Hugh and Abigail Blake Pray, and Dorcas (c.1723-1816).
