Biography

Jonathan Phinney was born in Barnstable, Plymouth Colony on 30 Jul 1684, son of John and Mary (Rogers) Finney/Phinney.[1][2][3]

He married first Elizabeth, whose surname is unknown, about 1713, based on the birth of their first child.[4][3] She was the mother of all of his children, and died sometime between 1721 and 1735, the dates that her last child's birth was recorded and her husband's second marriage.

He married, secondly, Deborah Wade in Bridgewater on 16 October 1735,[5] the daughter of Thomas[6] and perhaps Hannah (Ensign) Wade,[3][7] born Scituate on 10 May 1691.[6]

Jonathan died between 9 September and 18 October 1738, the dates that his will was written and his estate was inventoried. The will of Jonathan Phinney, "sick and weak," of Middleboro named wife Deborah, sons Joseph, Jonathan, Joshua and Timothy, daughters Thankful and Elizabeth Phinney under age 21. Deborah and son Joseph to be executors.[8]

Deborah died after 6 November 1738 when she made oath on the inventory of her deceased husband.[8]
