Info added per DAR's "Lineage Book of the Charter Members" by Mary S Lockwood and published 1895 states Johathan Trumbull, who served as the Revolutionary governor of Connecticut, he was a great friend of Washington's and the phrase, "We must consult Brother Jonathan," was so often used by him that it spread through the army and country, and "Brother Jonathan" became a national and generic name for an American everywhere. Trumbull was denounced by the British Government as the "Rebel Governor" and a price was set upon his head."

Jonathan Trumbull was born on October 12, 1710. in Lebanon, CT. He entered Harvard at the age of thirteen, and graduated in 1727. In 1733 Jonathan was sent by his fellow townsmen to the General Assembly, to which he was repeatedly reelected, becoming, in 1739, Speaker of the House. He was chosen, in 1740, an assistant or member of the Council, and continued in the office, without interruption, for ten years, filling, meanwhile, the stations of Assistant Judge of the County Court, Judge of the County Court of Windham, CT and Judge of the Probate Court of the same district. When the war with France broke out in 1739, he was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of one of the State militia regiments. When conflict revived in the Seven Years' War, he was again in similar employment. As the war of the Revolution approached, it was to men like Trumbull that the country especially looked for advice and counsel. Trumbull, was bound in his appointments as Chief Justice in 1768, Deputy Governor from 1766 to 1770. In 1769 he was elected Governor of Connecticut, the title by which he is best known to the world, wearing it with honor and influence through the Revolutionary war, till within a short time of his Death. In total Jonathan Trumbull served fifty one years in public service. Trumbull Died in his home in Lebanon on August 17, 1785.
