About Joseph Babcock Avery
Joseph Avery died abroad; in his will probated in the Prerogative Court, Canterbury, England, and noted in New London, in December, 1746, he was called of Bristol, Great Britain, but formerly of Stonington, Conn. {New London Probate Court Journal, 5:48). His will was dated March 13, 1744. In it he called himself a mariner. He left a suit of half mourning each to James Vincent and to Betty Stone, spinster; the rest of his estate, to his friend, Jane Day, who proved the will at Canterbury, July 7, 1746 (A^. E. Hist, and Gen. Reg., Jan., 1908, p. 93). We know that Joseph Babcock Avery died before the division of his brother's estate, March 10, 1752.
