Joseph Feldhake

Joseph Feldhake was born on 7 January 1814 at Voltlage, Osnabrück, Niedersachsen, Germany. He was baptized on 8 January 1814 at St. Katherina, Voltlage, Osnabrück, Niedersachsen, Germany. Godparents: Gerhard Heinrich Heidmann, Johann albert Schwieling, and Theresia Overberg.1 He was the son of Johan Bernard Feldhake and Anna Adelheid Sall. His baptism name was Gerhard Heinrich Joseph Feldhake. In 1834 Joseph Feldhake immigrated from Germany. He was on the passenger list of the Ship Charles Ferdinand to New York, New York, New York, USA, on 14 October 1834. He is listed as a male, age 21.. Around 1839 Joseph joined the German Land Company of Cincinnati, Ohio that was established in 1839 for the purpose of establishing the town of Teutopolis, Illinois, and through them purchased a farm in Effingham county, to which he seems to have settled by 1841.2 He and Mary Gersina Brummer had 12 children. He married Mary Gersina Brummer, daughter of John Henry Brummer and Maria Meyer, at Effingham, Illinois, USA, in 1842. Married at the old Feldhake homestead just north of Effingham by Father Maskitt.3 Joseph is the head of a family on the 10 September 1850 Census.4 Joseph is the head of a family on the 11 July 1860 Census at Effingham, Illinois, USA.5 Joseph is the head of a family on the 19 June 1870 Census at Douglas Township Effingham, Illinois, USA. Joseph is a farmer with real property worth $17000.6 Joseph is the head of a family on the 15 June 1880 Census at Effingham, Effingham, Illinois, USA.7 He died on 17 December 1899 at Effingham, Illinois, USA, at age 85. He was buried on 19 December 1899 at St. Anthony's Cemetery at Effingham, Effingham, Illinois, USA.
