About Joseph Caleb Hamlett
Joseph Caleb Hamlett, born Dec. 28, 1875 near Wood, Iowa. Died June 23, 1955 in Edgewood, Iowa. Married Dec. 25, 1897 in Dawes County, Nebraska to Anna Elizabeth Freyermuth of Dawes County, Nebraska. Anna was born 1876 to Louis and Amelia ( Schriedber ) Freyermuth of Dawes County, Nebraska, formerly of Muscatine, Iowa. When Joseph was ten years of age he went with his parents to Sheridan County, Nebraska. Remained there until the spring of 1898 when he took his bride to Putnam County, Missouri where he spent 2 1/2 years and returned to Nebraska. Here they farmed in Stanton County and later bought a farm in Madison County. In the spring of 1910 he moved his family to Clayton County, Iowa near Wood, Iowa. His return completed the Hamlett fold, they were once again all together in Clayton County, with the exception of their son and brother, William whom they lost in Nebraska. Joe bought and operated on of several farms which he owned at various times in Clayton and Delaware Counties. He retired in Manchester, Iowa in 1936. Moved to Edgewood, Iowa in 1941 where they resided with their son Jesse.
