About Joseph H Love, Sr.

There was another possibly unrelated Joseph Love (that married Margaret Bryan, was living in the Roanoke Settlement area and both he, his brother William and also possibly his wife were killed by Indians in 1758) living in early Augusta County that may be confused with this Joseph Love. This Joseph Love married Mary Teas in abt. 1752/3.

James was born 10 NOV 1728 in Orange, Orange, Virginia, United States, and bought 937.5 acres of land in about 1782 through the Virginia Treasury Warrants. He married Mary Teas and they had several children. He died 10 NOV 1804 in Fairfield Township; Lycoming Co, Pennsylvania.

Joseph Love was born in what was Chester County and is now Landcaster County in Pennsylvania, the seventh child of Robert Love, an emigrant from Ireland. In 1749, Joseph and his brother Samuel moved to Augusta County, Virginia. Documents from 1751 list Joseph's profession as 'Clothier' and give him leave to build Fulling Mill.

Joseph marries Mary Teas in 1753 and they have eleven children between 1754 and 1777. Joseph and Mary are contributing members of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church between 1765 and 1780.

Joseph Love serves in the Colonial Army during the Revolutionary War from 1776 until 1781. His name appears on the Muster Rolls at Valley Forge and he serves in the southern campaign in the Carolinas. On May 8th, 1782, Joseph appeared in Montgomery County court seeking reimbursement for provisions and equipment he used to join with the army of General Nathanial Greene while on duty in North Carolina.

Joseph remained in Montgomery County as late as 1782. He received a land grant in South Carolinain 1785 and in 1788 he moved to Steele Creek in Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. He is known to have also lived in Pendleton District, South Carolina; Elbert County, Georgia; and then back in Virginia before finally settling in 1798 at Campbell's Station in Knox County, Tennessee - near present day Knoxville.

Joseph Love died on his 76th birthday in Knox County, Tennessee - the year being 1804.
