About Joseph Robinson, I

Joseph was a lineal descendant (great grandson) of Reverend John Robinson, pastor of the 1620 Mayflower Pilgrims at Leiden, Netherlands, and his wife Bridget White.



Joseph Robinson, the sixth child of Peter Robinson, Sr. and second wife Experience Lumbert, b. Feb. 4, 1706/7 at Tisbury on Martha's Vineyard, Mass.

On July 17, 1735 at Windham, Conn., Joseph m. Mehitable Read, dau. of Thomas Read and Rebecca Palmer, b. Aug. 10, 1714 at Windham. Through her mother, Mehitable was the gr. granddau. of the immigrant Walter Palmer of Rehoboth, Mass. and later Stonington, Conn. Mehitable's mother was the 15 year older sister of Elihu, husband of Joseph Robinson's older sister Abigail.

Joseph and Mehitable had twelve children recorded at Windham, the last, son Josiah, b. Feb. 5, 1758 and d. six days later. Their 11th child was Prudence (1753-1799). She married as his 1st wife to Jedediah Brewster, s. of Peleg Brewster and Sarah Smith of Duxbury, Mass. and Canterbury, Conn. He was b. June 7, 1742 at Windham, the gr.gr.gr. grandson of Elder William Brewster of the Plymouth Colony, passenger of 1620 passage of the Mayflower to America. Six known children of the family.

When wife Mehitable died is unknown. Joseph Robinson purportedly died at Windham July 1, 1789, but his death does not appear in the Windham town records and it is unknown whether he had a gravestone.
