Joseph Vickery participated in the American Revolution
Biography
Article from source below says he may have come from Scotland. He drew land in the lottery of 1827 because of his service in the revolution. Also states that he had several children but only Aaron Vickery is known. See note below about possible first son, William.

Joseph Vickery was born in Orange County, English colony of Virginia, in about 1735. He was the son of Hezekiah Vickery and his wife, Mercie (Holland) Vickery.[1]

Joseph Vickery was Sarah Hightower Durham's second husband, the first, John Durham, having died in 1761 when she was only 30 years old and had several young children. They lived in Virginia and had at least 6 children, the oldest proven son being:[2]

Aaron Vickery, b: ca. 1770 in the Colony of Virginia
Joseph Vickery was an American patriot and fought in the American Revolution in the Virginia militia. After American Independence (1783), he and his family migrated south, first to Montgomery County, North Carolina, where he is listed with wife and 5 children on the 1790 US Census (the Census report does not give spouse or children's names or ages; it's believed son Aaron was already out of the household). Then, the family moved to York County, South Carolina, where Joseph is listed on the 1800 & 1810 US Census reports, and then to Elbert County (became Hart Co. in 1853), Georgia, where he had a plantation before 1820.[3]

Joseph Vickery died in 1827 in Carpenters District, Elbert Co. (Hart Co. in 1853), Georgia, USA. No burial information has been found.
