About (Jr.) Asa Wheelock
GEDCOM Note
[seefurth.FTW] [Wheel450.FTW] Marcus Warren Waite, in "The Wheelock Family of Calais, VT", 1940, writes as follows: "No documentary evidence has been discovered to prove that this Asa was the son of Asa of Calais, yet the weight of circumstantial evidence appears to indicate that he was. The family lived at Cape Vincent, NY, for many years. He was ensign and sergeant in the War of 1812 from Cape Vincent. Late in life, or in 1853, the family moved to Illinois, where he died at the home of his son Oscar, near Apple River, Feb 24, 1858, ae 75, and is buried in Morseville Cemetery three miles southeast of Stockton, ILL. Mrs. Wheelock resided in Stockton until 1882 when she removed to Iowa to be with her daughter, Mrs. Biddleman, and died at Mrs. Biddleman's home in Atlantic, Iowa, in 1890 or '91, ae 94. She was a member of the Methodist Church over fifty years. Buried at Atlantic."
