Hon. William Jenckes Esq. was the son of the founder of Pawtucket, Joseph Jencks, and his wife, Hester/Esther Ballard Jencks.

William Jenckes was the Chief Justice of Providence Co Court, and Deputy to the Assembly at Newport 1727. He served on the commission to settle the boundary dispute with MA. Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in 1734. Active church member. He helped build the Pawtucket bridge, spending much of his own money. He promoted rebuilding bridge after damaged by flood in 1739. Town Deputy 1727 - 1729, was 54 years after his father did same thing. Was Justice in the Inferior Court of Common Pleas 1734 for Providence Co. Town Deputy in Smithfield 1739. 1740 was representative of RI in border dispute with MA.

William married (1) Patience Sprague daughter of Jonathan Sprague and Mehitable Holbrook in Providence,Providence,Ri. Patience was born in 1674 in Smithfield,Providence,Ri. She died about 1730 in Pawtucket, Providence, Ri.

  • He married, first, by 1696, Patience Sprague.
  • He married, second, later in life, Patience's younger sister Mary (Sprague) Brown, the widow of Daniel Brown Jr. (It was Mary, not Patience, who died Aug 29,1770).
