ALBERT & JULIANN TESKE: Dewey Township
ALbert and Juliann Teske, along with four children: Jenny, Norbert, Louis, and Mary, travelled from Baden-Baden, Germany in the spring of 1892 to the United States. They first lived in Warsaw, North Dakota for about four and a half years.
Then the family, perhaps feeling that opportunities were better in Minnesota, moved to Roseau County, Dewey Township. They built a house and homesteaded 160 acres. Other children born to this family included:
Katherine
Frances
Magdelene
Amelia
Anthony
Elizabeth
Doris
The family home became a post office known as Sandwick, and Albert was the postmaster for many years. The closest Catholic Church was at Leo, where the family were parishioners. This deep family faith later influenced daughter, Katherine, to join the Sisters of St Joseph of Carondolet and her name became Sister Mary ALice.
Education was another important trait of this remarkable family. Out of the 11 children born to Mr and Mrs Tesle, seven not only finished high school but went on to college to produce one chemist, three teachers and three nurses.
Earlt neighbors of the family whom they enjoyed visiting were the Martin Johnson family, the Stenberg family, the Torgerson family and the Wilson family.
Albert passed away in 1919 at age 86 and his wife passed away at age 78 in 1941. They are buried in Warsaw, North Dakota.
As of 1989, there were 3 members of the family still living:
Amelia Teske Lizakowski - AZ
Elizabeth Teske Lulling - MN
Doris Teske Michaud - MN
