Kanekapolei Kanekapolei, aka...Kekupuohe!

There is a lot of information on this ali'i chiefess, but never connected to her western mate, Alexander Alika Miller Mela, Sr./I. She really needs no introducton or explanation by me. Lptm

The Great Mahele, under "Alika Mela"....two pages worth...shows her marriage to Alexander Alika Miller Mela, Sr./II. It also reports two keiki from this Caucasian/Kanaka Maoli marriage: Alexander Alika Miller Mela, Jr. and Kahinu Miller Mela Nauku.

Her son, Alika Miller Mela, Jr.,...with her haole husband [Alika Miller Mela, Sr.) lived in Makena, on Maui....so I am "guessing" she died and was buried there. I think I found her gravesite, but a vision from My Lord on site..... warned me not to say where... for when I get to heaven, she will not be pleased.

Don't want grandma mad at me.

There are clues on the site that suggest that her caretaking-ohana all her life guards her last resting place, still. Sweet and wondrous.

The layout where she is buried suggests/shows a marked out, ancient kanaka maoli, travel/compound-living protocol, I think.

On the other hand, I am aware that after the burial rituals are done on one site, the ali'i sometimes re-buried the ali'i at another even more sacred and private site that no one knew of,... except for the retainer told of it,, by the higher level ali'i ,...

who told retainers only what they needed to know for specific jobs.

This is why when a relative suggests that we find the final burial site for an ancient, I am inclined to say, "NO."

Conduct any annual memorials thereafter at the first burial site; we are not authorized to go looking for the possible second and final burial site. It is kaput (d) to all such as us.

I have been told that her dad and mom were from Alika, Hawaii Island. So I guess she might have been born there? But, the ali'i traveled all over as they desired, so this is only a guess as I have no absolute site in mind, nor any absolute clues.

Does anyone else have sites and clues for her descendants to entertain? Would love to discuss such. Lptm

To bring about forgiveness, mercy and aloha between my Kamehameha/Miller/Mela/Tilton/Ontai ohana...

and his Ka'oo line linked to Keawemauhili and Kalaniopuu/Kiwalao/Keoua Kua'hu'ula!

The book is magnificent,.... but also perplexing, shocking, and gave forth new information I did not know...

I have been reading and re-reading it with the awareness that rather than bring peace between the two ancient, warring, and sacrificing Keawe lines, it may very well result in more resentment, hate, and recriminations...

if prematurely/recklessly used by all Keawe players and stakeholders today!

Definitely, the book will not be given as a gift just yet.

When concerned about increased strife in the 21st century, it might be best that I not gift uncle just yet...

even if he shows up in Honolulu for a meal and kuka' kuka'!!

Better if he finds it on his own; or hears of it from someone else.

At least this is my present thinking, even if I come across as a coward!

Irving Jenkins gives us a precious gift from grandma: An ode in grandma's own tongue:

"'Once only has that which is glorious appeared. It is wonderful and holy altogether. It is a blooming glory of unwithering form. Rare is its stock and singular, unrivaled: One only true vine - it is the Lord."

Ah, grandma....I thank you for pointing the way as your hapa son did long ago to/for.... my line.

Page 62 shows how grandma looked, according to this latest researcher/author (Mr. Irving Jenkins)...in her elderly years. Like Ka'ahumanu....reference is made to her having lighter skin color than what might be expected of a Hawaiian wahine. Amazing that we still think such a phenomenon was worth remarking about, but even today in 2018....so many humans concern themselves with skin color.

Looking at the continental lands from which humans might have come,...

in their weather-directed journey to Hawaii and it is a fact, I believe, that not all humans making up the ancient kanaka maoli people would have been popolo (black) and/or dark-skinned.

Just like there could not have been one spot on the globe from which a western expert could pronounce it as being the site near the origin of the polynesian people.

if grandma died in 1836 and was thought to be about 90 at her death. she might have been born in 1746. Yet, I would not regard this as fact, for I do not think grandma stayed out of the sun and used creams all her life, ....

to keep her skin young looking as might have been done, by the western/missionary/wealthy/status-conscious wives of newcomer/missionary/merchant/business/plantation-building..... settlers.

The jury is still out on this. Only God Almighty Supreme knows Absolute Truth!

And what is the Truth I get from this page, being Bible-centered and a committed-disciple of my Lord Jesus Christ?

That grandma,

           "...a Hawaiian convert, once a heathen queen"...

who "...put off her heathenism, and put on Christianity as a conscientious Christian"....
not only became "one of the first fruits of Kailua..." and "...an ornament of the church..."...

King Kalaniopuʻu's favorite wife.

Purpose: To prove to my sister, to show her how to secure... the key Great Mahele document available to our ohana descendants at 25 cents a page....[total: two pages]...

purported/tentativelly convincing many... that this Kanekapolei is our great [4 X's] grandmother, when held alongside our ancient ohana genealogy charts as used in my secret instruction by my kupuna... over many years. Lptm

After securing that first key document, we also found the three-page document that proved our great great great grand Uncle/grandfather... Alexander Alika Miller Mela, Jr.....

[only God Almighty knows whether he is our uncle or our grandfather, cause only God is "present," directing the "proceedings"... when two or more human sperms move towards an egg... deep inside the human uterus)!

So.... I repeat..... we....

found the second document that also proves that kupuna Alika Mela, Junior was a loyal part of the Great Mahele events, sanctioned by his ali'i nui.... Kamehameha III...

where uncle/grandpa proved his heartfelt- loyalty to Kamehameha III....

by willingly giving up much 'aina and ending up only with one piece of land for himself to keep.... [between 4-5 acres]...

[which then made him a maka'ainana farmer]...

so his "brother"/king could commence the project recommended to him by his foreign..... missionary/business advisors....

a land re-structuring from allodial to fee simple....

[hewa! to the kanaka!]

which, later the kanaka realized was more than just land awards to konohiki and maka'ainana ,

but really....

it commenced the onset of the horrendous loss of the land, loss of economic control, loss of their ali'i.... and loss of the Kingdom of Hawai'i..

plus it really was... the onset of the illegal annexation/kidnapping of the living kanaka..... by 1900 A.D....

by duplicitous, land-hungry.... foreigners and trusting.....

For the Miller-Mela/Tiltons: The annexed/kidnapped-in-place kanaka maoli were my great great grandmother, Kanekapolei Miller Mela Nauku Tilton, my grandfather Frank Palaika Tilton, II/Sr., and my grandmother, Ana Alana Achong.
