strangled in her bed “on a hot May day” as an infant Katherine Lanier
Managers of Katherine Elizabeth Bass (and Curator of John Lanier),
Hello cousins--
I am contacting you about this profile: Katherine Lanier
....daughter of John Lanier: http://www.geni.com/people/John-Lanier-the-Emigrant/600000000741071...
Katherine Lanier, daughter of John Lanier of Charles City County, did "strangle in her bed" as the profile states. However, this occurred in 1665, when she was an infant! The verdict was returned on June 6, 1665, following an inquest held in the court of William Bird, Charles City County.
The Katherine Lanier who married William Basse cannot be this little girl, who died May 7, 1665. Katherine Lanier Basse died in 1692 (per _The Bass Family of Black Creek_ by James Albert Bass; primary source unknown).

I have not seen a transcript of the original fragment, but per John Bennett Boddie:
"In June of 1665 in Charles City County an inquest was held to investigate the untimely death of Katherine Lanier, daughter of John and Lucreece Lanier, who was smothered in her crib 'on a hot May day, the 7th'."
Alas, Katherine Lanier Basse cannot be this particular daughter who died 1665, and there is no evidence of another daughter, to my knowledge. She cannot have been born later, either, as her eldest child (Edward) was born in 1672. (I know people in those days used to recycle names, but the dates do not add up.)
So we are still searching for "our" Katherine Lanier...I hope all my Bass cousins will keep searching with me!
The overview tab also says Katherine herself had a daughter who strangled in her bed. I believe this was added in error and should be removed.
Does anyone have a source for the middle name Elizabeth?
Sincerely,
Amy Cote
