Biography

Lurana Cady was born February 12, 1747/8 (new style February 12, 1748) in Killingly, Connecticut, the first child of Samuel Cady and Elizabeth Winter Cady.[1] In 1764 the family moved to Shutesbury, Massachusetts, where in 1768 she married Samuel Henry.[2]

The couple resided in Amherst, Massachusetts, and had six children. Samuel Henry died in 1790. In 1793, Lurana married Samuel Ames (Eames) of Hancock, New Hampshire, whose first wife had died in 1790.[3][4] There were no children from this second marriage.

Lurana and Samuel Ames apparently moved to Cavendish, Vermont, in about 1797 (the last year that Samuel's name appears on the tax rolls for Hancock, New Hampshire[5]). Lurana's daughter Elizabeth Henry died in Cavendish in 1799 at age 26[6] and Samuel Ames died there in 1808.[7]

Lurana died on 22 March 1820, in an undetermined location. A plaque in the memory of Lurana Cady Henry, including her life dates, was placed in the family graveyard (known as "Stetson Cemetery" or "Luther Henry Tomb Yard") in Shutesbury, Massachusetts, in 1914. [8]
