He was Speaker of the Virginia House of Burgesses[1] in 1720-1722, representing the Counties of Gloucester and of York. His death was noted in 1740 in the Colonial Virginia Register (p.100). He was the son of Lawrence Smith and Mary Debnam and the husband of 1) Mildred Chisman 2) Mildred Reade.
