About Lieutenant-Colonel Francis Sadleir Stoney
Major Franc Stoney was author of 'Some old annals of the Stoney family'. When he wrote the book, he was living in Woolwich.
Also wrote 'The life and times of Sir Ralph Sadleir (Secretary of State to King Henry VIII)' and 'Text Book of Rifled Ordnance'. J.P. for co. Wicklow. Lived at The Downs, Delgany, co. Wicklow, and Little Heath, Kent. 'Served in India during the Mutiny 1858, passed through the Staff College 1860-62, and held several War Office appointments, including that of Assistant Superintendent Royal Gun Factories, Woolwich Arsenal" - Joseph Jackson Howard and Frederick Arthur Crisp, Visitation of Ireland, vol. 2 (London, 1898), p. 13.
Died on 10 July 1927 according to his gravestone. 'Some newer annals of the Stoney family' says 9 July. Civil register says 9, with 10 crossed out.
In the book, he gives names of his children, but mostly these seem to be a mistake for his siblings. The Visitation of Ireland as an authoritative later publication has been followed here.
