About Lieutenant William B. Triplett
William Triplett was born about 1730, he and his brother Captain Thomas Triplett were officers in the Virginia State militia (Grayson's Regiment). When the regiment was sent to Charlestown South Carolina and subsequently captured, William was lucky and was in Virginia (likely recruiting since the regiment was under-strength).
William and Thomas were close friends to George Washington, they were neighbors and went hunting regularly, as well as serving the vestry of the same church. They also were experienced stone masons and did repairs and enlarged the mansion at Mt. Vernon for George Washington. William is almost certainly the "Mr. Triplett and Family" that are mentioned as special invited guests to George Washington's funeral in 1799.
