Funeral Services Held For Lillian Singleton

Mrs. Lillian Vernon Singleton, 70, Maeser, died at her home Saturday noon of complications following a cerebral hemorrhage.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Maeser Ward Chapel with Bishop Harvey McKee, conducting.

Mrs. Singleton was born July 22, 1882 in Blaine, Lawrence County, Kentucky, a daughter of William and Cynthia Moody Vernon. In 1891, she moved with her parents to Utah. She was married to Albert Singleton August 28, 1910 in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She was a member of the LDS Church and active in a number of public organizations.

Her exceptional ability to organize and her business ability enabled her to be a successful civic worker. She was instrumental in raising funds for the Maeser Ward Chapel, funds for remodeling of the chapel in 1949 and has been on all USO, Red Cross, Bond Drives and other committees. She started the amateur programs which raised funds to beautify the Lapoint School grounds. She was also on the committee for three years to beautify the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.

Mrs. Singleton was known as "Aunt Lillie" by the people of her community. She was very interested in poetry and wrote for her own enjoyment.

Mrs. Singleton's husband preceded her in death in 1939. She also lost her two sons, Vernon in 1916 and Leo in 1918.

At the home prior to services, Lewis Timothy offered prayer. Opening song at the chapel, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," was sung by Leslie and Ted Thacker, followed by prayer offered by Lester Bingham.

Harvey Knight sang "Old Rugged Cross." First speaker was H. Walter Woolley who spoke of Mrs. Singleton's life, telling of the devotion she had for her home and family. After a musical duet "Whispering Hope" by Claire Hacking and Lucille Calder, second speaker was President Jessie A. Haws.

George C. Davis sang "Going Home." Closing prayer was offered by Harmon S. Sowards and the grave was dedicated by Hugh W. Colton. Burial was in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Martin W. Curtis, Carl Curtis, Charlie Palmer, Clinton Vernon, Lloyd Richards and Alton Vernon. Honorary pallbearers were Morris Vernon, Elmer Holfeltz, Bryce Erickson, Asa Johnson, Howard B. Calder, Bob Luck, Wilbur Oaks and Claude Hatch.

Surviving Mrs. Singleton are two daughters, Mrs. Venna S. Frasher, Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Mrs. Marie S. Yates, Casper, Wyoming; two sons, R. M. Singleton, Vernal; and V. R. Singleton, San Diego, California; a sister, Mrs. Mattie Curtis, Salt Lake City; two brothers, Andrew J. Vernon, Vernal and T. B. Vernon, Baggs, Wyoming and seven grandchildren.

Lillian Virginia Vernon Rayan Singleton, 70, a resident of Maeser, Uintah County, Utah, died of a cerebral hemmorhage on September 13, 1952 in Vernal.

Lillian Virginia Vernon was the daughter of Cynthia Moody and William Vernon.

She married Jack Rayan in 1905 but later divorced. Albert Singleton asked her to marry him on August 28, 1910 in Glenwood Springs, Garfield County, Colorado. She was a housewife and mother. Her husband preceded her in death.

To this union were born six children. Some of whom are: Vernon Lavel Ryan Singleton, Leo Singleton.
