Lorene M. "Nene" Wood, 87, of Valparaiso, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at home. She was born February 12, 1922 in Kewanna, Indiana to D. Roy and Fay (Rouch) Rans. She graduated from Kewanna High School and worked at the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant during WWII until she was burned in an explosion. Lorene volunteered numerous hours with the Porter Memorial Hospital Guild, was a member and former secretary at Calvary Baptist Church, and was the secretary and later president of Wood Insurance Agency in Valparaiso. On October 1, 1944, she married George W. Wood at the First Baptist Church in Michigan City. They were blessed with a nearly 65 year marriage filled with love, respect and companionship. She is survived by her dear husband, George, along with four children, Terry (Karin) Wood of Walnut Creek, California, Rodney (Joan) Wood of Austin, Texas, Angela (Bruce) Snow of Valparaiso, and Bradley (Linda) Wood of Vienna, Virginia; two step-daughters, Linda Proud of Valparaiso and Kay Knoerr of Hurst, Texas; one sister, Ruth Agnew of Kewanna; two brothers, Joe Rans of Akron, Indiana and Larry Rans of Kewanna; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by seven brothers: Hubert, D. Roy, Jr., Billy Richard, Harold, Paul, Raymond, and Lowell Rans; and three sisters: Helen Worl, Lois Jean Bell, and Ethel Stipp. Family was at the center of her life and will be her everlasting legacy. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Calvary Church, 1325 E. Evans Ave., Valparaiso, with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home.
